Some players consider it a game of chance, while others a game of skill, but the truth is that blackjack is a little bit of both. After all, there are 52 cards in the deck and that could mean thousands of possible combinations, right? Well, the high number of possibilities could constitute an inconvenience if you do not know how to take advantage of the odds. On the other hand, it could also mean that, although you do not know when it will happen, you are going to win sooner or later. Just how important are the casino decks in blackjack? Moreover, does your position at the table influence your chances of winning in any way? Let’s find out!

The truth about casino decks

Back in the day, casinos only employed a single deck of cards for blackjack and many players think the practice continue till this day. However, in reality blackjack can be played with any number of decks and, the more decks a casino uses, the better the odds for the house. While some casinos offer single-deck blackjack, take note that they are very difficult, if not impossible to find and the bets usually start at $25 per hand. In fact, any casino that accepts a bet under $25 per hand will typically use at least four decks to turn the odds in their favor.

As far as the online casinos are concerned, you should know that despite the fact that they are utilizing a single deck, the cards are being shuffled after each hand. This makes all the difference in the world, considering that you cannot rely on strategies that could help you improve your chances of winning, such as counting cards for instance.

Is your position at the table important?

Obviously, if you are playing blackjack by yourself, then the seat you occupy at the table will not matter. On the other hand, if there are a few more players at the table, then knowing the order of play could prove useful in the long run. In general, the order of play starts from left of the dealer, a position commonly known as first base. The order continues in a clockwise direction and the last position is the one immediately right to the dealer, also known as third base.

Whether or not you should occupy the third base is a decision you should make based on your experience in playing blackjack. Therefore, if you are an experienced player who has an extensive knowledge in regards to the optimal strategy once they see the up card, then the third base is the best seat at the table for you.

If you are new to blackjack then it is recommended to avoid this seat, especially since you will be the object of the other players’ anger if you make a mistake. However, this is nothing more than superstition, especially since the odds of the dealer hitting 21 or busting are basically the same. Be that as it may, but the truth is you will not enjoy playing blackjack when everyone else is blaming you for losing the last hand.
